1st Riverlake Scouting

Welcome to another exciting year of Cubs with 1st Riverlake Cub Pack. For those of you who are returning, welcome back.  For those who are joining us for the first time, we are very happy to have you in our Group.  At this time, we have 18 Cubs registered in the Pack. 

Meetings – Our meetings will be held Thursdays from 6:30 – 7:45 at Ash Lee Jefferson School. 

Leaders – We have a great team of leaders this year but we would really benefit from the addition of two more to assist with supervising Cubs and helping out with activities.  We know that leaders will miss some meetings because of work and other commitments, and we need a minimum number of leaders present at each meeting and activity or else we have to cancel it.  Having additional leaders available provides more supervision for special activity nights but also creates a little more latitude for all leaders for evenings when they are not able to attend. Please see one of the leaders if you are able to help out either as a leader or as a parent volunteer.

 Dues - Dues will remain at $1.00 per meeting this year, as it has for the last few years. With this money we will be buying badges and crests as well as supplies throughout the year. There will be some camps and activities where will have to ask for a little more but we will keep those occasions to a minimum. Please keep your Cub’s dues up to date.

 Uniforms – Your Cub will need a uniform shirt and a Cub Book.  Near the end of last year, Scouts Canada released new uniform designs for all of the programs.  It is not necessary to obtain a new uniform if your uniform from last year still fits and is in good shape.  It is really up to you as parent to decide.  We have the order information and a few Cub Books if you still need one.  The Scouts Canada catalogue can be found at www.scoutshop.ca.  Parents can either order online through this link (goods shipped from Ottawa) or find the items they need then order over the phone from the Scout Shop in Saint John, NB, Toll Free 1-866-535-6556.  Orders from the Scout Shop in Saint John can be shipped at no charge with a regular weekly shipment to the Nova Scotia Scouting Office in Burnside (84 Thorne Ave.) where you can pick it up.  Rules – To ensure that everyone has fun, we have three rules at 1st Riverlake:

1. No Fighting;

2. No Swearing; and,

3. Live by the Cub Law (The Cub respects the old wolf. The Cub respects himself/herself).

With the rules comes a three-strike policy for breaking the rules:

Strike 1: A leader will talk to the Cub.

Strike 2: A leader and parent will talk to the Cub.

Strike 3: A minimum of a two meeting suspension will be imposed.
